Friday 20-12-2013 (Cradle Mountain)

Urgh. The weather is not being kind to us today, what with you guys having 40 degree days and us suffering through a sudden change of weather halfway through a walk, resulting in soaking wet Bakkers. Today was fun but a little tiring. We woke a little late and hurried through our morning routines, pausing to watch an echidna dig for food (only a few metres away, it was adorable) to catch the second shuttle bus up to the Ronny Creek Walk. We took the hour and a half walk, which was very beautiful with a few changes of scenery; grassy plain to wet forest to steep mountainous terrain to boardwalk near some lakes. It was very pretty and interesting, especially when we spotted a wombat and her young! At the beginning of the walk, we saw the pair of wombats, with the older one trudging along and the littler one bouncing about. Finishing that, we took a shuttle bus back to the bus for lunch, then caught one back up to do the Dove Lake circuit walk. Well, that was lovely for the first hour and a half, until it began to rain. With me in shorts and a t shirt, the scenery looked incredible in the rain but the rain itself was absolutely freezing. To make matters worse, we had to wait in a bus stop area for over three quarters of an hour as there wasn’t enough room on the first two buses for us. A quick shower as soon as we got back to the bus was revitalising, and now we are about to have tea.

Hope you guys are coping with the heat.
