Hi guys! We tackled even more steps today much to my chagrin and disgust. After we had left the caravan park we started our first walk of the day at Fossil Bluff. The Fossil Bluff lookout took us down to the beach, then up to a lookout. The lookout out was interesting and pretty but I’m a bit peeved that no fossils were spotted. Secondly we walked from the Table Cape lookout to the Table Cape lighthouse. The walk was short, but interesting and Gabby and I learnt many “life lessons” from Dad on dangerous weeds. The walk’s information board promised us “a spectacular waterfall on the way” which failed to impress us (it was a tiny little creek). The lighthouse itself was really cool and the information board was super interesting (and didn’t lie to us *coughlookoutinfoboardcough*).
Next we travelled to Boat Harbour Beach for morning tea. Gabby and I explored along the rocks. There was also a school group at the beach and this time the teachers didn’t mistake us for one of their own (last holiday a teacher yelled at us because she thought we were a part of their group). After that we headed to Sisters Beach where we embarked on another walk with more steps. The Sisters Beach Walk was along a teensy, tiny path which seemed prone to snakes. One snake-filled conversation later we were at the beach. Gabby and I waded in the paralysing cold water. For lunch we drove to a different part of Sisters Beach with orange, gold and red waters. Lastly we drove to Highfield Historic Site, then Stanley Nut. Highfield Historic Site was a first settler’s establishment which contained lots of interesting stonework for Dad, beautiful gardens for Mum and old fashioned interior decorating for me. The Stanley Nut was a large mountain with a chairlift to the top. Mum and I rode up the chairlift together which was a cool but scary experience. We then walked around the top
of the Nut, spotting Pademelon’s (basically little, fat wallabies) on the way. We then walked down the steep mountain. We are now at Green Point Beach; our first free camping site. The beach is really interesting, with starfish and seaweed inhabiting the rock pools covering the beach.
Goodbye for now,
Maddy.
We had a little bit of a hiccup with the bus today. We let 2 trucks pass and as we accelerated away the tone and loudness of the exhaust noise changed. It took us a little while to find a safe place to pull over (in someone’s driveway) and after pulling the internal engine cover off I saw that there was about a ½ inch hole where a threaded plug used to be. Lucky for us the threaded lug had fallen behind the starter motor and bell housing, so 5 minutes with the spanner and we were back on the road. We were out of action long enough for some concerned residents to come over and check we were alright.
