Thursday 19-12-2013 (Cradle Mountain)

Hello! We have finally re-established the blog on a different website. Sorry for the wait. Today we arrived at Cradle Mountain St Clair National Park. It took us a large part of the morning to drive to the National Park. We stopped at Waratah for fuel, but unfortunately were not able to fill up the tank. When we finally got to Cradle Mountain we were low on fuel. Because we wanted to get to the campsite quickly, we drove past the fuel pump, promising ourselves that we would go back on the way out of the National Park. Driving up the slight hills to get to our campsite, the bus suddenly stopped and started rolling down the little hill. Gabby and I were very shocked; we had made it up bigger hills then this plenty of times! Turns out, the tank was so low that when we were going up the slopes to our campsite, air had gotten into the fuel tank. This is, apparently, not good for the bus. Dad and I formed Team Bus Repair walking down to the pump for fuel, whilst Gabby and Mum formed Team Washing. Dad and I got a 5 litre jerry can of fuel from the pump which proved to be enough to last us to the petrol pump to fill the tank up. After that misadventure, and lunch, we walked down to the Cradle Mountains Canyon office where we embarked on the 3 hour canyon session, paid for by the money from Grandma and Grandpa; our Christmas present. Thankyou! I had wanted to do the 8 hour session, but no-one else did and I would have had to do it on my own, which Mum and Dad didn’t want me to do. The canyoning was amazing, we wore wetsuit long johns, wet suit hoodies, wetsuit vests, boots, a nappy (blue piece of material that was used to protect the wet suit from sharp rocks), gloves, lifejacket and a helmet; a very heavy load in the hot sun. It was a 10min walk from the bus to the water and we had to carry bags filled with all our equipment. When we got to the changing platform Mum, Gabby and I all had to help each other get changed into the skin tight wetsuit material. After we had changed, the whole ground(11 of us and 2 guides) entered the river and started our canyoning. We jumped off rocks into the water, walked on top of slippery rocks and slid down rapids to get to our final destination, me leading the way of course (jokes). At the end of the river, we had to get out and walk all the way back up in our heavy gear. For anyone that gets the chance, I would really recommend canyoning as it’s great fun.

Goodbye, Maddy.
